Transfer Case Question

I have a 99 Z71 with about 74k miles on it. When I put it in Auto 4wd and accerate in the snow to where the front diff engaged there is a loud clanking noise. Its hard to explian. It also does this in 4hi he entire time. Any ideas?

could be chain snap, it may be steched, seen/repaired many, test is to put into 4wd high, turn steering wheel to one side completly and give some gas if it sounds like snapping, and it may be VERY loud! you just need a new chain and some seals while its out of the truck,

is this a DIY or what would it cost at the dealer?

ITs still making these noises. How much would this cost at the dealer? Its far too cold outside to work on stuff myself and Im away at school with no garage
