You could do that if you wanted to ruin your paint. Dont heat up the emblem, take some fishing line and work it behind the badge and slowly move over. heat up the paint start having at it with a plastic putty knife and your gonna be making another post how to remove scratches and pits and smudges IN the paint that cannot be wiped off.

When I removed mine I aimed a hair dryer at it for a few seconds and then sawed away at the adhesive with fishing line. I then covered the leftover adhesive with Goo Gone which is very gentle on paint, and then painstakingly removed the adhesive with a fingernail. I probably could have used something else and done it quicker but I wanted to be extra careful with the paint. I then cleaned the tailgate with my regular car wash soap and then some spray on wax to top it off.

I'm going to go ahead and agree with the GM paint tech

Was that in reply to me? Because I agree with him, a plastic putty knife is a quick way to a scratched up tailgate. I just wanted to point out that a little bit of heat from a hair dryer on the emblem did nothing harmful to the paint (the sun her in California probably heats things up hotter) and makes the adhesive on the emblem a lot easier to deal with.

If that wasn't in reply to me, well...kindly disregard this entire message.

I took mine off after I let my truck sit in the Texas summer sun for a couple of hours and then I slid the fishing line under the bowtie and it slowly came off. Just be patient and it will work. After you get it up you have to clean up a lot of the left over tape and residue and this can take some time scrubbing and a lot of arm muscle. Took me about an hour total.
