Engine Cover

Does anyone know how the large black plastic cover over the engine intake comes off?

I don't see any external screws & I'm sure it just clips on to something

underneath, but I would like to know where to pull so I dont break it.

It pretty much just lifts up. It is a little tricky as the back tends to get a little hung up when you pull it out. Just pull the front part up and kinda wiggle it out, you'll see how it works when you're done.

Yep, just pull straight up on it. Be careful when putting it back on. I pinched a vacuum hose when I put mine back on after painting it.

Yea, it has 2 or 3 little nipples on it that snap into rubber grommets (or something like that).

Uh, I'd be reluctant to remove it. After all it covers the engine and everything. Maybe that will void the warranty.

There are 4 little rubber boots, 2 in front and 2 in the rear. Lift it straight up with some force with no problems. And then when putting it back on the truck just put the black rubber boots back onto the truck and not the cover and push it straight back down... It will not void warrenty lol

Are you wanting to replace it or just remove it? When it is off, the Engine compartment is pretty ugly. Now if there were replacements for it that did not have that huge notch cut out where the factory air tube went under it, that would be great!

Just curious. I like to know what all the parts & pieces look like. I'm coming from a

1987 RCSB (305 w/throttle body injection) that I could sit on the inside fenders and still have room in the engine compartment. The more I can learn now about how it's put

together the faster I can fix it when it goes out of warranty. I want to know where

everything is at & how it works.

I know that someone here has access to the service.gm.com website. It has pictures for everything assuming you know what you are looking for. Also the same information can be found in a HELM Service manual. That is what I have so the best I could do is scan a page or something....

I'm not looking for anything specific, just want want to know what the intake & injection system looks like under

that huge cover. I hope I never have to work on anything under that cover but the knowledge of whats there

never hurts & can maybe save me big $ down the line. If I can get the cover off I can figure out what GM built.

Ahhh.

Well, just a Throttle body on the front of a poly/plastic intake.

Anyway, just grab the front edges of the cover and rock it back and forth. It will just pop out. If you have ever had to replace a taillight on any GM truck in the past few years, it has the same rubber plug thingies (yea, technical term) that hold it on.

There are a lot of things under there that are even harder to figure out than the cover.
