Truck Not Starting

Hi all, I have an 03 Silverado 2500 HD Duramax, and it's the only one in Ireland, so I really need some American help. Yesterday it was very low on fuel, but I'm pretty sure it had a little bit. It lost power for a moment, got it back for a moment, then died. In the morning it displayed a Batery not charging warning. his may not be relevant. But I spent yesterday at the side of the road - I put more diesel in and lift pumped the fuel up. No start. I opened the vent and pumped some more. Fuel came out but still no start. Filled the fuel filter with diesel. Still no start. After filling the fuel filter with with diesel, I tried priming again, but neither air nor fuel came out of the vent. Opened an injector and turned the engine over, fuel came out. Checked all fuses in both fuse boxes. All ok there. What should I check next? Is it true there is no fuel pump in the Duramax? That would be a good reason for me not to hear it when key turned to run. No mechanic here wants to take the job, so any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Correct, no electric fuel pump.

 

Are your glow plugs working? If battery gets low, and it is cold, you may have no fuel ignition.

 

Is fuel vapor seen/smelled coming out the tailpipe?

I have heard some people had to take and apply air pressure to the tank fill neck to alleviate the system of air. Sometimes the pump primer is not the best thing to do this with since the stroke is so short. From what I understand you just need enough air pressure to push the fuel and have someone start the truck until it run smoothly while still applying air pressure. Have not tried this but it makes sense.

Someone on here may have more experience at this as I have only heard about it.

Thanks very much for the replies. WV, you got it absolutely right. Hooked up the compressor to the fuel tank, and with a bit of toing and froing got it going. you're an absolute star, and I'll be forever grateful
