Window Tint - What Percentage / Options Are Best?

Recommended Posts

I've recently purchased a GMC All-Terrain and will have the front side windows tinted. However, I'm unsure of what percentage to get and what type of tint is best. I would like to have the front match the back, but even then -- sometimes the back seems too light. I fear if I darken the back and try to match the front windows to that it would be too dark at night.

What percentages do you guys have and what has worked best? If the precentage on the front doesn't match the back (ie. back is darker) does it look odd?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Your local law will determine your tint. You can't just throw on anything you want in most areas.

Yeah, our law does limit the percentage, to 35% I think, but it is basically an un-enforced law. Sure, you'll hear of someone getting a $60 ticket but largely it just doesn't happen. Windows tinted beyond 35% is so common, including many police cars, a person would have a full-time job just writting tint tickets.

I had my Ford F-150 Supercrew's windows tinted to match the factory tint and after 140,00 miles through eight different states, I've never gotten stopped once for tint violations.

If you want to match the front windows with the rear windows go with 20% tint. If you want darker rear tint go with 5% Tint. A good combo would be 20 % Front Windows with rear 5% tint. IMO 35% tint ain't worth the money, you barely be able to tell there's tint there.

I have 5% over the rear factory tint and it is practically solid but you can still see through it. I also have 35% on my front windows just becuase I don't want to push my luck. It doesn't look odd if the back is darker than the front that is acceptable, it does however look odd when the front is darker that the back.
