Broken Power Sliding Rear Window

Recommended Posts

Posted

My power rear sliding window broke Monday. The cable broke were it attaches to the window. There is a little nuggie at the end of the cable that fits into a groove that is apart of the Window. That nuggie came off the end off the cable...

Trucks at the dealer today, I hope they can replace the end of the cable. If they have to replace the whole cable it looks like they are going to have to remove the rear seat. I am not going to be real happy if they have to do that. I hate other people tearing my truck apart.

Just a heads up for others who have a power rear window. I have had no problems with it before this.

MS3DALE,

Thanks for this proceedure and the PN for the window regulator. Mine just broke and dealer wants $450 to fix it. Can't afford the luxury of someone else doing the work right now. Has anyone followed this procedure? I'm a little concerned about how to get the plastic panels off as they are all behind the rear seat and it's very tightly secured to the back of the truck.

Thanks!

Steve

This issue was fairly common on the early 2007's Sorry about your luck, but hopefully it won't be to painful to fix.

i got bit by the problem on my 2007 this morning. I really appreciate the information that y'all posted on this. I have a few questions

I called the dealer, they informed me that they had not seen this issue before, and would have to look into it. I confirmed that the cable on the driver side is broken. I disconnected the passenger side in order to close the window.

1) The retail cost on the part specified in the bulletin is $126 (maybe $156, can't remember). Should I expect to pay retail for the part, 1 hour for the tech to muck around, and 1 hour for the service as posted in the bulletin?

2) should I make the dealer aware that I am aware of the bulletin? I thought it would be interesting if I was aware that the recommendation is 1 hour of shop time for this issue. Did not know if it would be all that helpful or not.

I have the service manuals at home. I am ok with tools... I can get the replacement part kit for $86 on line.. is this a hard repair to do myself?

Hey I have a similar situation, but not exact. My nephew got into my pickup and open the rear powered window by hand. It acted like it was gonna work for a minute but then quit. I can still hear the little motor running. What would my local dealer do to fix this issue. (my nephew is 7 so I don't know if he could have actually broken anything.) Thank you!
