Now Before I get flamed by everyone!

 

I came off of a 2005 Ford F150 SuperCrew Lariat that was nice looking but it left a real bad taste in my mouth. My Dad has always been a chevy man and I will be from now on.

 

Anyway the dealer offered a trade in value for my 05 that I could not pass up.(they had to because I could have lemon lawed the 05)

 

Plus they were giving a dirt cheap 07 price on another Lariat but I did not want another Ford (for myself) I ended up trading in the 05 for an 07 Expedition that my mother currently drives.

 

It is an XLT 4x4 (my mother hates leather). I have driven it quite a few times and I never thought I would say this about the IRS that ford implemented a few years back but it rides like a dream and it handles superbly well.

 

Last weekend, my girlfriend and I went out to a lounge/club with her older brother and his girlfriend and their friends.

 

Well the brothers' g/f drives an 07 Tahoe which I personally think are just beautiful SUV and she said we should all go in her Tahoe.

 

This is when it happened...Me and my g/f's brother had to go in the house and get the third row seats take all the stuff out of the back of the Tahoe and put them in. That is not very practical in my opinion.

 

That however is not all, Me and My g/f were the lucky ones that got ride in the third row seat. It is horrible back there (I am 6'2") and my knees were almost touching my chin!!

 

Now I have ridden in the third row seat (Which stow away and fold flat into the floor) of my mother's Expedition and I fit comfortably back there with ample leg room (which I am guessing is because my feet occupy the space where the seats fold into)

 

All of this really made me appreciate having bought the Expedition for my mother because for everyday practical use for a mother with a toddler (I have a 3 yr old brother) who carries around family more than couple times a month, it is better than the Tahoe.

 

Now I wish I would have bought the XL or EL version I don't really know what ford calls it.

well not trying to bash or anything, but a tahoe has never really had a 3rd row seat conf, there was always the suburban for that, so IMO the 3rd seat is probably not that well designed for comfort yet. that 3rd row is more for small kids if anything if you ask me.

 

But what iw ould have done in your situation was volunteer to drive to avoid being cramped in the back

Considering the fact that I need back seats like I need an extra hole in the head, none of your arguments will sway me.

 

SOOOO....I'll stick with my GMs because Fords aint got no alibi, they U.G.L.Y.

When we bought my wife's Tahoe I specifically got one without the Third row seats for that reason. It was an afterthought. If you want those seats, get the 'burb. Anyway, the Expedition is more rightfully compared to the Suburban where the Tahoe would be better compared to the Exploder.

lol yeah I would have except everyone had been drinking except my g/f's brother so that did not work out. And I know that the suburban is another option but my mother does not like the extra length because it just makes every day driving a hassle for her ( I mean she is already a woman...lol)

 

I personally would just take the suburban but for my mother and her needs the Expedition fit the bill perfectly and without knowing it would I mean I just bought it because it was a steal that I could not pass up.

I am not trying to sway anyone wignut. I am just stating why I like the expedition as opposed to the Tahoe which are the same size.

 

Oh and I do agree with ya I can't get over the styling on the expedition. But I would rather have my mom be happy and not me be pleased with the way her ride looks.

Exactly, apples and oranges. The 'burban is the comparison to the Expedition.

 

My Tahoe 3rd row sits in the garage, and when family ventures up from the lower 48, it is the only time we use them

yeah, the stow away/fold flat 3rd row seats are practical, but if you don't use them much you still have to haul around the extra weight of them = worse gas milage.

 

My Yukon has 3rd row seats and if I need the extra cargo room in the rear the backs not only flip down but the whole seat folds forward so they are up against the 2nd row seat backs. The only time I remove them totally is if I have to load something that requires the 2nd row seats to be folded flat also, or if going on a trip and they won't be needed. I've had adults ride back there and they had no problems, but mostly my 8 and 13 year old kids ride back there when we have others with us

How are the regular Expedition and Burban Comparable? they are not the same length? The Expedition EL (I think thats what they are called I am not sure) is comparable to the burban. The Tahoe and the regular Expedition are both full size SUV and are mostly the same length. Now I am not bashing the Tahoe I was simply stating why I appreciate and prefer having bought the Expedition because for my mother's uses it is more practical than the Tahoe.

 

Now if this was my personal choice for MY daily driver I would have taken the Tahoe hands down.

The gas mileage is pretty good for a 4x4 the Expedition gets about 18 MPG if kept below 70MPH but I do keep the tires at max psi and a clean air filter in there.

 

Another thing that I PERSONALLY dislike but in this case I appreciate is the IRS (independent rear suspension). It does ride and handle better than a solid axle rear. I do not like it because I do not think it can hold up to things like heavy towing and I don't think it is good for off roading, but then again in my mother's particular case she does neither and therefore I think she benefits more from having a smoother ride and better handling.

I'm assuming since it's an expedition that the max on those tires would probably be around 44 psi. It's fine to run that but your tires will wear out quite a bit faster and the ride usually isn't as smoothe. Just thought I'd throw it out there. You usually want them in the 35-40 range. Plus if it's a new expedition then it more than likely has a TPMS system. Sometimes running the pressure that high can get you error messages since most SUV's are set to 35ish from the manufacturer. Just a suggestion.

Hey Rob you are exactly right 44PSI max. You are also correct about the tires wearing out faster, except the Expedition's tires are holding up really well I don't recall the brand and model but they are a street tire. And as far as the TPMS system it only went off when the rear tires were low and that was back in June and I aired them to max PSI and have had no problems since.

This is why it's important to be a driver and not a passenger. I personally never use my 3rd row. It sits in the house 99.9% of the time. I also don't have a family to cram in there. If I did, however, need a 3rd row... I'd just buy a freakin' mini-van!! Now those are practical. Or one of those mini-vans without a sliding door. I believe they call those "crossovers."

 

The ease of use for the 3rd row wouldn't anywhere near the top of list of things that are actually relevant in a $40k vehicle purchase. Certainly not enough to justify buy a Ford over a GM!

 

But that's just me.
