Those With Avic D3 In Nbs Silverado

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a 2007 NBS Silverado LT1

Well...after getting lost again I've decided to bite the bullet and go full bore on one of these. I think I'll be ordering the Avic D3X tomorrow.

I've seen a few folks post with them but not a whole lot of detail. I'm hoping to get a little more detail from their experience.

1) Did you have any issues cutting back the opening so that it fit flush. I don't want it to stick out.

2) Which module should I buy to keep the factory controls in the steering wheel, chimes and Onstar - can this be done all with one unit? I keep hearing PAC but there are so many different choices.

3) Any rear view camera suggestions. I may as well go full bore on this.

4) Can you use the Antenna that is currently on the truck for the GPS and Sirius? If so how would I go about doing this.

5) If you got the BT have you been happy with it?

6) Any other comments / suggestions / directions will be greatly appreciated.

Feel free to include any links that may have helped you out.

I've spent hours searching but I'm having trouble finding definative answers.

Thanks,

ya...i spent a lot of time over there but there were only a couple of very thinly discussed topics on the nbs silverado

i'll be spending some time over there during the install though...there are some pretty insightful posts.

It fits pretty well, does not really stick out much. The dash install kit I got had a little gap in it which the installer filled in with some black hot glue. I do not have bluetooth or rear view camera yet so can't say anything for those, but the GMOS-LAN-02 module should retain the factory onstar and chimes. I got most of the stuff from Best Buy...

As for the antennas, I've heard that the factory XM plug works sometimes on Sirius interfaces (you will need to get an additional external tuner for the services, I believe the Pioneer adapter is called the SIR-PNR2). My truck did not come with XM so I used the antenna that came with my tuner and it works perfect.

Well.

It's in. Camera Installed. Ipod works. Steering wheel controls still work. All good.

Took about 8-10 hours. Probably could have shavedsome time with another set of hands and if my shed was closer to the truck. I must have put 10 miles in running back and forth to get a new tool (or beer).

I'll try to get around posting for others.

I spent alot of time searching and never found one good spot that answered the questions that I had before I started.

For anyone else searching

2007 NBS

5.3 L

Non Premium

I used the following:

1) PAC - OS3 - came with chime module and antenna adapater. Direcections where decent enough. Don't forget to set the volume before putting dash back together.

2) PAC SWIPS - for PIONEER or SONY - other ones for other brands. Directions weren't the best but after reading them a few times it slowing made sense. Works as stated. Don't forget to turn on and set before putting dash together.

3) I put the blue tooth under the center counsole

4) I put the GPS antenna in the VIN spot and just pushed the cable inbetween the molding.

5) There is a amp remote on the D3 Ran some 22 gauge back to the amp.

6) Used the Yanlab camera from Ebay. Works. Wraps though - 130 degrees of view. Still playing with it. I taped the light green wire in the rear (reverse signal) by the lights. I used the ground there also. Snaked it up the tailgate and mounted it in the latch handle like another poster here had.

If anyone has questions fire away. Off for some bocci and beers.

Dumb question, but are your speed pulses working in the Connection info screen? On mine it stays at 0 and the learning mode keeps reverting to "simple hybrid".

Well....that is my one area of t/b/d.

I just had the GPS antenna flip flopping around for a few days on the dash. I believe this unit learns. I was getting results that were off by about 75-100 yards.

I reset that whole section last night. I did have data in the speed pulse field before hand. Does this indicate that the VSS was correctly hooked up? I hadn't researched if that is what it meant. The manual isn't totally clear to me.

After getting to work this morning there was a new speed pulse but it still says simple hybrid. I was going to review after having driven for a few days.

Another member posted some nice pics of his '07NBS. Showing were the VSS was under the dash on the drivers side....we'll...mine doesn't look anything like that picture (why would it). I just took the leap of faith that the same color wire was the one I needed. Green with white tracer. So far nothing has blown up :chevy: . I wasn't 100% confident that I tapped the right wire. Crossing fingers.

post some install pics if you have them...did you bypass?

I'll try to get to that tonight. Depends on when I get out of work.

I did the bypass. It really is simple. Don't read too much into the 900 posts on it.

Avic411.com.

Read the simple one.

It really is easy.

Used a razor blade to open up the lock on the harness. Pulled the mute wire. Flipped it 180 degress and put it in the slot directly across from it.

I can't remember the two wires off the top of my head but I just used taps to run those two wires to the black ground.

It works. Plays DVD's. Full access to all GPS funtions.

If anyone can tell me if the green/white that the red tap on in the last picture is really the VSS I'd be happy. This is under the dash / driver's side.

I'm getting the speed pulse in the 3D section to increase. It's at 22 now. However it still says simple and the learning section isn't showing any progress for 3D. The left turn, right turn and distance are all climbing.

They have some good directions on AVIC411. The simple

Find/make a picture you like. Scale it to be 500*240. You can have up to 20. Names of files must be alpha/numeric. Use .jpg.

Create a folder called PICTURES. Dump all pictures in there. Try to get total data over 2M with dummy files if needed. Burn to CD.

I can't remember exactly where off the top of my head but one of the settup screens gives you the option to change backgrounds for the a) splash screen, b) nav screen and c) AV screen. You can then just choose to load from the disc.

It's a nice little touch that's pretty easy to do.

The direction manual has the details also.

I am going to install my d3 into my LT1 08 this weekend, and was wondering why you cut the back of the stereo hole out? Why not just remove that whole piece by unbolting it? Is it really necessary in there?
