Adding Remote Start

Check your RPO codes on your glove box sticker for "AP8" If affirmative I believe those new fobs plus a dealer trip for programming is it.

I can save you a lot of time & research. Here's how.

1. You must have RPO code AP8(remote start ready). I you don't you will not have the hardware

needed. (hood ajar switch & wiring, remote control doorlock rx does not have the antenna needed)

2. If you do, you must have GM part #19132317. It consist of two new key FOBs & instruction

sheet.

3. Dealer will call Techline Customer Support Center,TCSC. TCSC will provide dealer with a BCM

Vehicle Configuration Index(VCI) number. You must have the vehicle VIN & the authorization code

that came with the GM instruction sheet. GM TCSC will not give the dealer the correct VCI to

unlock remote start for your vehicle if they don't have a valid authorization code.

Any remote start key FOB will work with remote start, but where they get you is with the

authorization code. I assume it is to make a lot of money by having to buy the GM kit.

The first dealer I went to said that GM stopped needing the authorization code and he could

do it without calling TCSC for a VCI. Well needless to say after an hour of trying to get them

to work I left with no remoe start.

The second dealer followed the instructions and called GM & everything worked well after that.

the site said it came with free programing instructions my truck does have the "AP8"

If you have a valid authorization code with the key FOBs, then the dealer can do the rest.

If not then you are SOL.

THAT'S why I keep coming back here. I didn't know what the dealer did. Makes sense that GM wouldn't want to lose out on their piece of the action. :banghead:

Sweet, I just ordered my parts for the DIC upgrade and now I know I can have remote start for about the same price as an aftermarket unit by just ordering the fobs (I have AP8)...I love this site!
