Steering - A Groaning Noise From The Ps Pump After Rack Was Replaced.

Took my '04 Silverado 1500 Extended Cab 2 wheel drive in for the intermediate shaft replacement, and a few other issues as well. I noticed during the last oil change that one of the rubber boots on the steering rack was all oily, so I told the dealership about that as well.

The dealer replaced the rack with a remanufactured unit, replaced the intermediate shaft, and realigned the front end, all under warranty.

However, now I have a moaning/groaning from what I'm guessing is the power steering pump, at low speed/low engine RPMs. Most obvious when backing out of the driveway or backing out of a parking spot. At higher RPM's, it either goes away, or I simply can't hear it anymore.

Called the dealership and took it back, they had to "bleed" air from the power steering system. I was also told that they "think" the power steering pump is OK. However, the noise continues.

Asked my brother in law about it, he used to be a GM tech, and he told me to take the cap off of the PS pump, then turn the front end lock to lock several times. That didn't help either.

Didn't have the noise before, but I have it now... and it doesn't seem to want to go away.

After running your truck for a bit, look at the fluid. is it clear or is there air in it? If it was not there prior to the repair and there is no air in the system, I suspect there could be an issue with the reman rack.
