Wiper Scratched My Windshield

Just noticed that on the drivers side, there was a faint line across my windshield after the most recent rainfall. At first I thought it might be something that got stuck under the edge of the wiper but after closer inspection, the edge of the rubber wiper blade has started to tear away from the metal. So, this means my damned glass is scratched.

My question is, since these wipers are factory and only have 10,100 miles on them, is this something I can complain about to the dealer? I'm thinking wipers should last longer than that, looks like a defect too, cause it's not like the wiper doesn't clean well, it's just separating.

I think if the scratch is light enough, it can sometimes be buffed out to be less noticeable, or some glass repair kit can be used to fill it in, this line is definitely noticeable right now. I'm sure I can't get them to replace my windshield, but there's noway I would leave it like this, it would drive me crazy.

What is my recourse with this problem with the dealer?

Do you have full glass coverage on your insurance? They replace windshields for things like chips, pits etc.

If the scratch isn't very deep a good glass man can buff it out. My brother ran over a big cardboard box on the highway and it scratched the crap out of his windshield in two places (staples maybe?). A guy that works for Safelite auto glass fixed it using some kind of serious looking compound and you can't even see it if looking for it. Worth looking into.

Cant hurt to ask the dealer. Weve replaced wipers that have gone crappy.. and ive done work on many trucks that are lifted. Depends how desperate the dealer is... we did a rearend in a truck lifted big as mine.

The product is called Cerium Oxyde..We use it at work for just such a thing.Rule of thumb is,if you can feel the scratch with your fingernail than it usually is too deep for this product to remove. It's great for minor scuffing on the glass.

If you want to protect it from scratches, I think the best way to go is probably Line-X.

Do they make a clear Line-X?

Line-X is pretty scratchable, I've had some gouges and noticeable lines in mine...I use it for work and don't really care about the inside of the bed so much haha. Worse case, I put in a plastic liner and cover it up.
