What Do I Need?

I just bought this 04 Silverado and I am unsure of what I need to install my aftermarket headunit in this truck. I'm going to leave the stock speakers, change in my Pioneer P3600 headunit, and add some Rockford P2 10" subs behind the rear seat. Alot of people tell me I need a special adapter to allow the head unit to work but from what I understand its just so I retain my door chimes and that 10 minute radio rundown thing. I don't really care to keep the door chimes. I pay attention to my DIC enough not to need to hear the chimes everytime something is wrong and I'm not gonna be leaving the keys in it at all so no biggie there. I also have the steering wheel controls and without that special adapter will I not be able to install the steering wheel control adapter? I know everyone has probably seen a bunch of these post but I haven't been able to answer all my questions with what I found in a search. Any and all help is appreciated.

Well I didn't find anything out except that nobody offers the harness without the little dinger attached to it. So I ordered the Metra VT-GMRC-01 for about 70 bucks. I have to wait to get a new radio to use my steering wheel controls. I don't want to use the PAC SWI-X, I want the one made for Pioneer radios; the PAC SWI-PS. I will eventually get the AVIC-D3 or D3X.

Both D3s are the same unit, the X just had extra accessories which you may or may not use. I have a D3 in my NBS and love it.

And you CAN cut the "dinger" off the harness I think, it's just a little speaker on most adapters. Unfortunately the installers did hook it up on my truck and I think it's tied into the door speakers.

Yea it just depends on how fancy I wanna get with the bluetooth thing. I doubt I would ever use it but for the same price there is no reason not to get it. Most places I have looked offer both at the same price.
