'03chevyHD Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Right now i am driving an '03 2500 HD and the mileage BLOWS!!! i am lookin to downsize to the 4D 4x4 Canyon or Colorado, but i would like to know from you guys what kind of mileage you are gettin in yours. Also which would be better the canyon or colorado or is there even any difference? Thanks
Ranger Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 My buddy's getting 18 mpg with an 07 CCSB, I-5 3.7L 4x4 with 31" A/T tires, He has a a factory canvas cover also. No real difference between either makes, just badging and different equipment levels.
ColoradoSkiCountry Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Sheesh, I can get 18 just fine in my 07 Sierra 5.3L Z71.
Ranger Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Well, I'm sure it'll get up to 22 if it was all highway...He drives in pretty congested traffic. I should know cause I live a couple miles away from him. I used to have a Colorado also but it was the 3.5L, I got 15-16 but that was with a heavy foot and loaded half the time. My 5.3L will only get about 13.5-14...What's your secret?

My 5.3L will only get about 13.5-14...What's your secret? I get 21 on the highway in my 08.. I don't do anything special. I'm not particularly hard on it, but I don't drive like a grandpa either. I get about 15-16 city so I generally average 18-19 mixed.. and that's at 3500 miles.
TexasAl Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 With the Colorado/Canyon trucks, you are going to average 18 mpg. I ended up going with a full size Silverado because I average 18 mpg, and it is still a full size truck. Good luck. -Al
66chevelle Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Between 17 and 18 city. Low 20's highway. Cold weather can reduce it by 25%. Which goes for all gas engines.
spyman Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 I get about 17-19 in my '06 RCSB Colorado 2.8L Auto in the city. Around 30 (no lie) all highway!
Jackson Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 wow, you're going from a 2500 to a Colorado or Canyon? I'm guessing you don't need the capabilities a 2500 provides? on of our program managers did the same thing. never knew why he bought the 2500 to begin with since he didn't need it. oh well, his choice. he likes his Canyon. I get about 16 in my 5.3 '99 NBS....17 if I watch how I drive. I got 18 on a trip to Austin once.
pj5454302 Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 I have driven both the 5 and 4 cyl modles and there isnt much difrence in power so go for an ext cab with the 4 cyl and you will get mid 20s on the highway.
BigJayDogg3 Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Some people on here have gone from a Canorado to a fullsize, and haven't experienced much of a drop.
24v Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 Some people on here have gone from a Canorado to a fullsize, and haven't experienced much of a drop. That would be me. The mileage difference in negligable. Maybe 1-2 mpg. Colorado was a 3.5L 5 cyl. Silverado is a 5.3L v8.
J-man67 Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I'm on the same page. I had a Rado for 3 years and LOVED IT! I got 24 on the highway and 18 city with the 3.5l. Would of kept it if I didnt need the extra room and towing power. I am getting 17/22 city/highway with my new Sierra crew 5.3.
Xtreme4U2NV Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 I have the 2.8L, and get insanely great mileage. I can easily, 90% highway, get 750KM's to a tank. And 650KM's with mix City.
drumset5994 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I'm still way in the works for buying a midsize, but has anyone had the 5-speed/4 cyl/4x4 combo? I'm trying to figure out what mileage people were getting. I used to have an S10 with a stick, and whenever i got to a hill i instinctively put the clutch in and coasted down the hill...got me some good mpg! Anybody else got a 4x4 Colorado with a 5-speed and do this? i'm trying to see if that gives mid twenties mpg.
