From 4.6 To 4.8

ok... I went to buy a 2008 Silverado... traded in my Colorado I5.... which I might add I miss very much.. I wasn't looking for all the bells and whistles.. so I chose the Extended Cab W/T trim with 4.6... drove it for a few days as a testing phase.. But I was thinking more about the resale value which pushed me to get the 4.8.. But since I got $8900 off MSRP should I have splurgged and got the 5.3? I won't be towing much til I get back to Montana, but thats in the 5yr plan. So between now and then the only thing I'll be towing is a 15ft canoe... and $120 to fillup week is really hard to swallow.

So the question is... 4.8 or the 5.3.... What are the Pro's & Con's.. But I am really interested the Pro's of the 4.8, since thats what I have to chew on for the next five years....

HMM tough question. the 4.8 is a good motor, so you really shouldnt feel remorse about buying it. virtually same power ratings as the 5.3 with 2 minor exceptions i feel. the 5.3 has slightly more power (neglible?) and has AFM (Active Fuel Management)

some ppl love AFM, other dont like it. there are also concerns about the longevity of the new 5.3l with the AFM due to lifters and the torque converter.

i personally love the 5.3 and like AFM (for now i guess till something goes wrong!!)

but i think you made a sound choice going with the 4.8l

Enjoy what you have. Like the previous person said, the difference in HP is very minimal between the 4.8 and the 5.3. It's a new truck, enjoy it!

I think I knew that much... you know how it is.. I just needed to hear from others... As fars as the other things... I thought I would do the upgrades in baby steps...

Exaust...Step bars... and some new wheels.... I'll post a pick later.. so you can see what a "real basic" truck looks like before all the upgrades...

Again thanks for taking the time to post... I would love more input if its out there..
