Engine Replacement

I am in search of a used engine for my 01 5.3 sierra 4x4......

I did a tad of initial research but I'm still a little confused on what I have for an engine..

I know its the 5.3L, Are all 5.3 engines from the 01 era, a LM7? And if i'm replacing it from a bone yard, do I have to specify a LM7?

Will other yearss of a 5.3 fit in my truck?..... The boneyard has a long block, 5.3L for $500 bux, with 35k miles on it... They say its from a 01 sierra 4x4. Do i need to ask any other information?

Thx

Mike

No, my engine did NOT yet kick it, its going strong with 217k miles on it. Only reason I'm looking is because I have won a coupon in a raffle that expires in a month and want to cash it in before it expires...just figured it'd be kewl to have a engine on the engine stand in my garage

That same year model 35K 5.3 for 500 bucks is a deal. If you are reasonably sure of their description, I'd jump all over that. Since 99 there have been model year "refinements" that make switching different year model engines interesting. Since that one is the same year you shouldn't have any big issues.

Keep in mind a lot of boneyards will sell you something that "interchanges" but may not be from a similar application or year. They might tell you it is from the same year but you may have to switch things like oil pans, intakes, sensors etc. Like any other business there are good ones and bad ones.
