To Get Body Work Done Or No

Hello,

I have a 2000 Silverado step side. I like the size and feel like a might hold on to this truck for a few more years. However, there is rust through the rocker panels, rust on the tailgate, rust inside the door sills, and a dent in the section directly behind the door.

I went to an independent body shop and asked for a quote. he quoted me at $1000 for new rocker panels, sandblast the tailgate, fix the dent, and generally get rid of the rust and re-paint.

so my question is this. Would it be wise to do this? or is it a waste of money and i should trade up while i can? Also, through experience, will the rust just reappear in a year? or do you think it would last a while?.. I will be doing Krown oil treatment every year after this.

1000 bucks sounds pretty cheap for all that work. Down here we don't have rust issues to deal with so I don't know how "permanent" such repairs are.

For that price, are these guy's worthy of their work? From what you're describing, it would be more like $1500+ where I'm from in Ohio. If this place has a good rating, then I say go for it. Check the BBB.

They are a relatively new place. I see a lot of BMWS, and other high end cars in there. They also did some work to a rusted ford pickup that I saw afterwards and it looked good. I don't know if it rusted a week later or not. I work right around the corner from them and they have constant business.

Ill talk to them next week and make sure we're on the same page and say go for it.

thanks for the input

As stated previously I would check them out a bit. $1000 sounds like a low price just find out what you are getting. If you wanna keep that truck for a few more years it will prolly be nicer down the road if you fix the rust rather than neglect it. Sounds like it might be worth the investment. Just my opinion. Good luck.
