Opinions Please....

OK, I am looking for opinions on whether this is a stupid or a good idea.

I really don't like the painted body side molding on my truck, but I do NOT want to remove it and go without. I really like the bodyside molding on the GMT800 GMC's, alot more than the painted Silverado bodyside molding. Since GMC has decided to make theirs the same way on the GMT900's, would it be a dumb idea to replace it with GMT800 bodyside molding?

After doing a quick initial search, I found this on ebay:

Also, as per my sig, I removed the chrome mirror covers already and the Carriageworks Billet grill is coming off tomorrow and getting replaced with a Sierra All-Terrain 4-bar chrome grill. I MAY also replace the chrome bug deflector with either a color-matched one or a smoked one. I have not decided yet. I will make that call after I get the grill swapped out.

All opinions appreciated, but again, taking the bodyside molding off and going without is NOT an option I would even consider. So, please save that suggestion.

Thanks!

I do NOT like the idea. The body side moldings look great to me, why do you want a protective strip along the side of your truck to actually draw more attention to itself than it already does? That's almost as dumb as chrome fuel doors.

Aren't they adding Steel Gray Metallic as a color for the SD's next year? I don't know if you like the body side moldings on the SD's or not, but they do have a chrome accent on them. It might be worth looking at, at least...

I've also heard about people taking body side moldings off of Escalades and putting them on Sierras and Silverados. That might be something else to check into... (Honestly, I don't remember what the body side moldings look like on the Escalades. So, I'm not sure if that would work or not.)

Yeah, I have thought of that too, in fact the All-Terrain package comes with SD bodyside molding too. I will keep that in mind, I do like the molding on your truck much better than mine.

Here is something else I just found, they are Stainless Steel overlays.

Keep the opinions coming, I am only toying with this idea at the moment.

I'm with you on this one. I've thought long and hard about switching the molding from my 05 silvy to the GMC spear type. IMO the molding that comes on Chevy's traps a lot of dirt behind it. everytime i powerwash that area, dark brown or black water comes pouring out. plus on my truck, the white paint on the molding is just a tiny shade off the white of my truck. little things like that bug me. we'll see how the funds work out this summer. If they're in my favor, I'll be doing this.

I would leave the door moulding alone, it looks good as is. The bug deflector, color match or smoked either way would look ok to me, as I am not much of a chrome guy myself. jmo

Yeah, that is quite obvious. :)

I like "some" chrome..for certain things. I don't like it overdone. Different colors can tolerate more chrome than others. i.e. I would NEVER have gotten a chrome bug deflector with any other color than gray or silver. I do NOT like "blingy" chrome accesories like fuel doors, door handles etc. I thought I would like the chrome mirror covers, and I may have if they were like the Escalades, but not the entire cover. I like chrome wheels, grills, bed rails, bodyside molding and step bars. But not much else.

The overlays only drew my attention because they are stainless steel and not plastic fake chrome. Plus I wouldn't have to remove the OEM ones and risk messing up the paint.

Thanks for the opinions, please keep them coming!!!

Wow! I normally try to keep my negative comments to myself, but... I think those things are overkill... WAY overkill... At least for me.

I think you can do better than that.

NO!!! Please do NOT keep negative comments to yourself, I am looking for ALL opinions. That goes for everyone please. You cannot offend me. I am on the fence about this and am only toying with this idea.

To be honest, at this point, I probably will just leave them alone.

Jeff, I think the molding off a GMT 800 would look good but I am not for sure if it fits or not....this is only what I have been told by my guys at the parts counter at the dealer when I worked there...and yes we're all buddies so they weren't just feeding me a line of crap....but personally I have never tried to put 800 Series Molding on the 900 Series Doors....I did however put the NBS Escalade Molding on the Doors of my new Sierra a few weeks back...this was a much cheaper alternative than the Sierra All Terrian Molding, or even the molding from a Yukon Denali(I had to have Yukon Denali Molding instead of Sierra Denali Molding because I only have an Ext Cab and the Yukon Molding would have fit)....The Sierra and Yukon Molding were like $130 a piece then you had to paint them also.

If you search on here...I just posted the pic of the Escalade Stuff a few days back, I thought it didn't look to bad...but then again....like mentioned on here the other day....your truck doesn't have dress shoes, so I don't know if its classy enough for Escalade Moldings :)

Well, I was speaking more in general terms about keeping negative remarks to myself. I've seen some stuff on here that made me think "Man! That's so ghetto I don't think the GHETTO would even let that in!" But, I usually try to refrain from saying stuff like that.

With you, though... I didn't think you even had any feelings TO hurt..!? :)
