Kerosene In Carpet?

Just bought a '97 4x4 blazer today to use as a second car. In pretty good condition, except the previous owner spilled what smells to be kerosene on the carpet in the rear cargo area. There's a circle about a foot wide back there. Isn't that much of a stain, but it sure don't smell too nice... What would be good to clean it with to get the smell out? I realize this is probably a strange question. I thought about maybe some Dawn dish soap, being that it's suppose to remove grease? Any ideas?

You could try that. I had a similar experience with a gas can tipping over in the trunk of a Buick Century. I can't rmember what I used to scrub it, but I used a bottle of Fabreeze, and left the trunk open so that it would air out. It took a few times, but the smell eventually went away.

Yeah, Febreze is a good idea too. I'm going to look at some of the foaming carpet sprays and see what I can find. I've got to do something, my mom looked at it today and the first thing she said was, "what's that awful smell". Not exactly the kind of reaction you want people to have upon seeing a different car. It's kinda funny though, the dealer that I got it from has crammed this thing full of air fresheners. Smells like someone poured kerosene over a big flower bed!

Use this stuff called lestoil, damn near get anything out.
