Diesel Particulate Filter (dpf) Regeneration Mode

Hello GM Tech. Hope this topic meets the scope of this forum.

 

Questions and guidance on Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) regeneration mode on 07 LMM. I want to make this whole cleaning process the most efficient and infrequent as possible.

 

When truck goes into regen, idle speeds up, can smell a bit of rich exhaust, little different engine sound, fuel consumption increases etc. Occurs about the once per tank or maybe a bit less often. I burn the cleanest fuel I can find. When I notice it, I try to then drive steady 30 mph+ for an extra while. Usually seems to take 15 min. or so. All sound normal? Assuming so, my questions are;

 

If stuck in traffic, will regen continue OK? Will the regen be less efficient or in fact damage anything when not moving a bit? Will the trap overheat (if stuck in stop/slow traffic) due to minimal airflow around the DPF and other exhaust components?

 

Is there a more efficient way to minimize requirement for a regen. say by driving harder. Can't drive much easier as I tend to be light footed on the pedal and cruise at 30 to 50 for normally about 10 miles trips.

 

What happens when I start working this engine (RV towing) and it goes into regen. Will the higher EGT's from towing, added to the extra fuel for regen thrown into the mix potentially deteriorate anything? Can I expect to have regens occur more or less frequently when working the engine?
