Spark Plug Gaps

I just installed new plugs on my 2000 2500 with 6.0 and the tech at parts store told me to gap them at 040 but when I checked my manual it states to gap them at 060? What does this mean? Do I have to remove the plugs and re gap them? What harm if I dont?

when GM switched spark plugs to iridiums after your truck was built they changed the recommended gap for them to .040.

Not a big deal at all, if you have any problems with how it's running you could try re-gapping. But, I would leave it a lone. Shouldn't make much of a difference.
