Aux Power Outlets

What's the easiest way to convert cig lighter and aux power outlets from constant power to ignition on power?

For stuff like radar detector and cell phone chargers.

Thanks for the help,

I don't think either one is a cigarette lighter. Please correct me if I am wrong.

None of my cigarette lighters worked in my 2008. Then I purchased a GM lighter. That didn't work. I was advised to purchase a kit for the cigarette lighter which replaces one of the Aux Outlets. I declined to purchase the cig. lighter kit.

I didn't answer the original question, though. Hope someone else will answer for you.

My 2005 came with a cig-outlett with a cig-lighter in it. It only works when the key is on. The other outletts work all the time. To change to key on, you would need to re-wire to hot source that is key operated.

I believe he has a 2004 not a 2008.

Correct, MY 2004. Cig lighter as well as aux outlets are always hot. I traced the wires until they go through the firewall and then into a very large bundle of wires that goes to the fuse block under the hood. Just thinking there must be an easier way to do it. Don't really understand who would want those outlets on all of the time.

Thanks,

Jay

Jay,

You are right. I must of had a senior moment. I would have bet money that my cig-lighter was only hot when the key was on. I just went out and checked it, its hot all the time. Be careful with the cig-lighter circuit, the fuse that powers it also powers your OBD11 plug. I believe a different fuse powers the aux plugs.
