I'm looking into getting a truck cap for the bed of my truck. I'm looking at A.R.E., Snugtop and Leer. Anyone have experience w/these that can offer what to look for or avoid? I need to have the 50/50 windows w/screens as my dogs will be back there. The sleek kind are what I'm interested in.

I had a Century on my last truck and had no problems with it. It was a low flush, frameless glass type. The reason I went with the Century is they don't have a trim piece on the bottom like some of the others.

I've had 2 Leer 100s and been very happy with them. I have a new Leer 100XQ on order for my current Sierra... I wish it would hurry up and get here.

Any specific on the LEER you liked over the other top brands?

I like their latch system. the curved glass and the fact that they look like an OEM product rather than an afterthought like some others. The one thing I am beginning to NOT like is the elephant's gestation period wait to get one! :D

I looked at Leer and ARE toppers and went with an ARE. they are a little expensive but I wanted to put what felt was the best topper on my new Sierra. Both toppers are nice but I felt the ARE had better hardware and I liked the looks of the ARE better. My brother has had both Leer and ARE toppers on his trucks and liked the ARE better. That is what helped me make my final decision. Here is a picture of my truck and topper:

Here's one of them :D

And to address the 2007VLX's question, the side windows pop outwards (like the glass on OBS ex-cab doors) to ventilate.

I liked the LEER's latching system and OEM looks as well. I don't think you'd go wrong with LEER or ARE. I think it's personal preference. SNUGTOP on the other hand was considerably more expensive and not worth the extra cost in my opinion. It took me 1 1/2 weeks to get my LEER. You will not be dissapointed sorry you have to wait for it so long. Kick that elephant in the goods and coax that thing out. I sent you a PM.

Wingnut,

The rear windows olny push out and without screens I'm afraid my dogs would cook w/o more airflow. While I perfer the look of the recessed widows just not sure it'd work for that particular reason. Does anyone have the front window option so I can acess the rear window the cab to clean it? I like the Z series from ARE and the 100XL from Leer but the air flow worries me. The Leer 100R and the CX from ARE with the 50/50 split windows but the rest of it looks crappy.

My 100 XQ is coming with the flip down front window. It makes cleaning the truck glass possible and might help with that air flow thing for the dogs as well.... BUT

Darn Leer!

I got word today that mine will be 2 more weeks BECAUSE of some production delay on the flip down front glass... I'm sure I will like it if it EVER gets here!

I don't know. Never have seen it in person. I was just told about the option when I ordered my shell about 4 weeks ago now. I hope it gets here before the 4th of July.

    • I understand that. The price is what it is, though. The price is what oil costs today, where our choices have led us, where supply is, and where demand is, in the market that is. Speculation is for futures, what we think the price will be, but with incomplete information at the time the price is forecast. I know you know this, but you appear to be intent on making a secondary point here about what you think the market could or should be, if only other choices.   In 1975 it became illegal to export US Crude. I'm conflicted on what the best answer is. Free markets allow export in pursuit of profit. But there is also a lot to gain by producing and consuming our own oil here. How do you reconcile it?
    • That sir is a choice. And even if it were not for all the reasons stated, this disruption has zero to do with the reality of the actual logistics and everything to do with the greed of SPECULATION. Spot price is irrelevant to reality.
    • What I think you're saying is there is supply here at home, and in Venezuela, and we could ease pricing if only it were favorable to do so.   Well, yes?   But that's not the current market. Supply isn't what could someday exist, if only, it's what producers are willing to produce and sell at a certain price point.   The national price of single family homes would come way down if we'd just slap together a few million homes this summer.   RAM and GPUs would get a lot cheaper if we just set up some factories to produce a bunch more and stopped using it to build out AI data centers.
    • The turn signal/multifunction switch is faulty.  I've seen a few of these go bad at work.
