1988 Gmc Cargo Van

Hi all,

The problem is intermittent, it starts when it feels like it. the dummy lights light up when i turn the key to start, I've clean the batt. terminals, I jumped the hot terminal on the starter and the starter motor spun but wouldnt turn over the engine.

I'm thinking its the ignition switch, and did a search here for (ignition) and got some ideas. but im not sure yet.

If y'all think its the switch, then how do i get to it? I took off the plastic panel and took off the two nuts that hold up the column. I also grabed the rod with needlenoses and helped it along hoping it would start. I can see the switch but cant get to it. the column doesnt drop down. does anyone know how to change the ignition switch on a GM van?

thanks. Mike

Sorry if i worded my plea for advice wrong

anyway, I put a $15 ignition switch in and it wasnt the problem

It was the starter, it was toast. I took off the starter like a last resort, kinda for the heck of it. the darn thing looked pretty new.
