I just did a 1998, 3500 GMC , Before you start the job wash it and inspect it then rewash. You definitely want to take it out and look it over. For sure change the pilot bearing and release bearing, inspect the nose on the transmission input shaft and be sure the splines are not worn. Inspect the springs and carrier, any wear replace it, any hot spots on the pressure plate, replace the disc. and the pressure plate, grind the flywheel, inspect the ring gear for wear. Do not try and cheap out and not change the pressure plate or grind the flywheel, unless of course you are going to sell it. If you are doing it you self, and plan on keeping it, you will more than likely want to do the hole thing, rather than having to do it again. Buying the complete kit and shopping around you can get a good deal and good does not mean the cheapest. PLAY SAFE!
