Found the drain plug was leaking slightly. Going to pull fill plug to check gear oil level. Assuming it should be up to the bottom of the threads of the plug hole or maybe slightly below. Right or wrong?

Correct.

It ended up being about 1/4" low. I found that the owners manual stated 1/8" below the fill hole was normal. I guess I need to rig up some sort of a fill apparatus as there is no way to get a gear oil bottle to the front diff fill hole. A long hose and gravity will do the trick.

Nope, it was just loose. Not sure if it was loose to start with or if it came loose on it's own after 4000 miles. I did check the truck out and looked very closely at everything including underneath the truck when I took delivery of it and did not see any leaks. A good 1/2 turn with a wrench solved that issue. It was leaking a drop every now and then from what I can see.
