Need Some Opinions ...

Just bought a 2005 Sierra 4X4 crew cab with 36k miles on it and have a couple of issues with the steering. The power steering pump is whining a little and the steering can be tight once in awhile like it's losing assist. I also get an occasional clunk in the steering/frontend and the steering drifts when going down the road like there's some play in the frontend.

So my queston is, do you think I need to replace the ps pump, intermediate steering shaft, the steering gearbox or a combination of any of the three?

Any opinions on the direction to take would sure be appreciated!!

The ckunk maybee the dreaded intermediate shaft.(Do a search). As for the drifting, check to make sure the ball joints are not worn. The power steering fluid can be dirty, you could try flushing it.

Had the frontend aligned yesterday and new tires put on and was told everything looked ok ...that'why I mentioned the gearbox maybe causing the drift?? I had an '04 Sierra a couple years ago and it was the tightest, best handling truck I've ever driven and that's kinda why I'm a little unhappy with this one so far because of the steering problems I'm having ...thanks for the reply!!

:ughdance: It should come with a warranty if you bought it from a dealer. Bring it back.

Could be, my truck used to have tight steering and would pull the right. Had it re-aligned twice, but turned out to be the gear box.
