Custom Intake?

Ok guys im sitting here bored at work and i was thinking... not usually a good thing. Looking at all of the cai kits outthere they just look like a piece of mandral bent tubeing, adaptors and a filter, so in theory could I take a piece of flexy exhaust pipe bend it to where it should be. Then take that to a muffler shop and have them bend it out of 3" stainless tubing or what ever the correct size is buy a filter and adaptors and make my own instead of droping the $300+ on a airaid or the like? Or is there something im missing here?

You got it. Just make sure to get the filter to somewhere that cooler air can get into it. And you should have some type of bracket to support it, and a nipple for the PCV line.
