F* Onstar

My wife just asked me why I was still paying for OnStar and I said WTF are you talking about. She said my credit card statement had a charge for OnStar. So I call them and they said that it was my responsibility to cancel after the free 12 months of service. I rose holly hell with the CSR and told them that I didn't even want the damn OnStar option on my truck and never used it.

I told her that it was bad business to make the owner of the vehicle responsible for canceling the service.

So for those of you who are getting close to your ONE year anniversary with your new GM vehicle that has OnStar, don't forget to call them and cancel.

huh? they don't have my credit card number...

+1

I renewed mine, BUT I had to call them and give them my credit card number in order to do so. They wanted me to enter it online when I got my truck and signed up, but I did not. Don't blame them, you gave them your CC number and they told you it is your responsibility to cancel when you did it. It's not their fault you didn't read the fine print. :rollin:

That's why I never gave them a credit card #, during sign-up.

Never blow up at a CSR (Customer Service Rep) Always ask for the manager, your complaints will get farther that way.

True... One other thing : I always try to keep my cool with anyone who has my credit card info in their possession... "just in case"

yeah, I told her that I wanted her to voice my concern to the next level and she gave me the run around. I remember then stricly telling me that they need my CC to activate my OnStar when the truck was delivered and I asked them directly that I didn't want to continue the service. They said they would call before the end of the 12th month to verify if I wanted to continue. Guess lesson learned.

They lied. :rollin:

Good to know. Mine is up in December. Great concept, don't need it, don't want it... Guess I'll be making a phone call when it gets close. Thanks for the heads up!

When I got the truck, there was a promotion of more minutes at a low price, so I bought them using a CC. No big deal, but my sales dude did tell me that after the year trial, I do have to call them and cancel Onstar or it will carry on. I marked the calendar so I will call them a few days before the anniversary date. Yelling and losing your mind at the CSR does nothing. I always go to the top with any issues, and demand feedback to my complaint. CSR's will just ignore you and thank you for your time, and "promise" that they will tell someone. Yeah, right.

I have used the phone feature a couple of times because if somebody is trying to call my cell phone while I am in my truck they usually can't get a hold of me because I cant feel my damn cell phone vibrating. But, Onstar has glitched on me a couple of times. One time the phone just randomly came on and started to try to call people. It did that 3 times over a course of 20 min.

ON star called my truck the other day to get me to set it up. I told them I did not want any other options they were trying to sell me. He then stated he would need a CC to secure my account.. I told him I did not have time and he gave me another spill. He stated they would not use my CC without my permission. I said Okay whatever and gave it to them. Right before he hung up he said that I had to cancel the account after the first year or they would charge me....

I dont see how that is not using my CC without my permission, since they will charge it anyway.

    • New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?
    • So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
    • Hey everyone, I recently had an issue with my 07 2500HD GMT900. My DRL’s stay on at all times. Right front turn and right mirror turn signal indicator stay on solid at all times. By “at all times” I mean the only way to make them go off is disconnecting the battery. I tore the headlight assemblies out, tried disconnecting the harnesses to eliminate bad wiring at the harness, I unplugged the headlight switch, no change and the mirror turn signal still stayed on. My first thoughts were : Bad bulb and/or socket somewhere, under hood fuse panel bad, bcm bad, tail light or trailer wiring problem, or some random short to power in the harness.  Possibly a bad ground but unlikely. I had a big clue in the fuse panel, it had a burnt smell. I started pulling every fuse that had to do with DRL or right turn/park lamp. Nothing made the right directional turn off but pulling the DRL2 fuse made the DRL’s go out.  After studying wiring diagrams, I found that both problems had that fuse panel in common, the bcm also controls both problems but knowing the fuse panel had a burnt smell I removed and disassembled the fuse panel and found a little corrosion on the printed circuit board.  I ordered a new fuse panel from Amazon for like $260. When it arrived I installed it, and put everything back together, the problem was fixed. I figured the fuse panel needed to be replaced anyway so that was a logical place to start. Hopefully this story helps someone in the future. Regretfully I didn’t scan for codes before I did everything.
    • That stinks. I’m sitting on the side of the road right now with the same issue. Never had an issue before taking it in for the ground strap recall. Now I’m outside of warranty and they’ll probably want $200 just to diagnose what they already “fixed”.
    • I wonder kind of nuts and bolts they will come up with next? Jim
