Switching to Synthetic

Recommended Posts

Well my Blazer is getting a new crankshaft and bearings today at 81,000 miles.  Dealer is charging me $110 to have an engine flush done, told me they hook up the oil cooling lines to a machine & run a special detergent through there to break up all the sludge.  I'd like to switch it over to synthetic oil, and I figure this would probably be the best time.  Am I better off to switch to a synthetic blend and then over to full synthetic in 3,000 miles, or go straight synthetic?  It's had dino oil in it for the longest time.  I will either be using Mobil 1 or Amsoil with either the Mobil 1 or Amsoil filter depending on the oil I use.

Thanks,
