Window Noise

I get wind noise from the rear quarter window on my 2003 Silverado extended cab. First, I tried an aftermarket window latch (search "wind noise fix" on Ebay). Next, I took off the door panel and used a screw to make the latch pull the window tighter to the body. I still have wind noise. Now, I am thinking about using some black sealant to beef up the weatherstripping along the top front of the window where the noise is coming from. Any other ideas or recommendations for sealant?

I've got an ebay latch at home in a box (400 miles from me right now) and am waiting for this weekend when I finally get home to install it. Mine whistles above 65 mph which gets annoying pretty quick. Give me a few moments and I'll try to dig up the link i found the latches at.

Can't guarantee that this works of course since I haven't installed it yet.

Oops, I noticed you already tried this. Dam, probably won't work for me either!

GM refers to it as "normal wind noise" on extended cab trucks. My passenger side will drive you crazy with wind nosie. Window was replaced but the noise came back.

What's strange about this is that the driver's side usually isn't a problem. I have heard of folks on here fixing this issue with the latch which is why I bought it. You'll know Sunday night whether it worked for me or not.

I have absolutely no noise on the driver's side. My passenger's side drives me nuts too.

Mine whistles on the drivers side. the gap is on the leading edge(opp latch) so the new link won't do anything. i can push the glass in a good 1/16". Also, the weatherstripping is separating from the glass. What a pos design. Should have just made it a fixed window.

Just installed the new ebay latch and it seems to have cured it. Getting the new link to fit into the handle part was a pita! Then I went for a test drive. There is ~10mph breeze from the west today and I travelled south, then north on the nearby highway to test it. It would usually make the most amount of noise in cross-wind situations so this was a good test. Even at 85 mph it was pretty much silent. It used to make noise at 70 on a still day.

I guess it depends on how the bracket was attached in the factory. If the window won't pull in any further for you, maybe try bringing the rubber lining out toward the window.

This may be a terrible idea but i'm brainstorming. How about something like a layer of black silicone applied to the rubber seal that touches the window surface. Put a bead of silicone on the rubber seal(s) and close the window on it. Except, before you close it, apply a thin layer of vasoline/petroleum jelly to the window contact surface or something silicone won't stick to so that when you open the window, the silicone will let go. Just a thought.

I'm not sure how the windows mount to the door on the hinged side. However, I would look into taking the window out of the door and making some "manual adjustments," if..you know what I mean, to the hinge so that the window will pull in tighter. Sounds like you may need to replace the seal as well to help close some of the gap.

My quarter window made noise when I bought the truck. I took it back to the dealer and they had an autoglass company come in and replace the entire window. The noise stopped but the rubber seal looked like crap and the guy at the dealer said he wasn't happy so he had the autoglass place get another new one. They installed the second one and it leaked just like the original. They installed a third window and it's been perfectly quiet for over a year now.

They took off the door panel and had to cut the adhesive out and removed the window and the frame and installed the new ones. It's not possible to replace just the seal since it appeared to be molded around the glass from the factory.

I know this isn't much of a help to you all but it's a very common problem.
