Deciding On Flowmaster 50 Series Suv Or Delta Flow

I am looking to upgrade my exhaust. I've watched a lot of videos and listened to a lot of exterior sound clips about the Flowmaster 50 Series SUV and 50 Series Delta Flow, but have yet to find a good clip of interior sound with these mufflers.

 

The reason I do not want a Super 40 or Super 44 is because of the interior drone/resonance. I drove my Dad's Dodge Ram w/ Super 40 and the interior drone was too much. I'm not sure how his cab's insulation is compared to mine, but I'm sure the two are comparable.

 

So, I'm deciding on a single-in dual-out kit that I can bolt on myself, but the seller has an option to choose one of these mufflers.

 

Looking at the Exterior vs Interior comparison chart on Flowmaster's website, the 50 Series SUV has slightly less interior resonance than the 50 Series Delta.

 

I am looking for opinions of owners that have 1 of these mufflers or has a friend/neighbor or someone they've ridden with that has 1 of these mufflers. My question to you, after installing the 50 Series (please state which muffler you have), how is the interior drone compared to stock? Do you have a video/sound clip?

 

Also, to allow others to chime in, what size piping is appropriate: 2.25" or 2.5"?

 

(To answer the other question of why I'm choosing a Flowmaster? Personal preference and that Flowmaster Sound.)

hey, i have a 03 2500hd 6.0L w/ the 50 series. i have all stock piping. its either 3 1/4 or 3 1/2". mine is a 2 in 1 out. exit out the right rear of the bumper. it is VERY loud when throttle is at full. driving around town or on highway is very smooth sounding. its not loud but you can hear it.

I have the 50 series SUV on my 02 Sierra and I love it, not majorly loud interior wise and exterior it has a nice growl to it when you hit the gas or first start the truck and quiet while cruising. I posted a picture, I have the single in dual out muffler with it exiting at the rear of the truck straight back rather out to the sides as it came with the option to do either or.

Thanks Michael, so far I've seen more people choose the SUV rather than the Delta. Was your dual exhaust setup an actual Flowmaster kit, or just a Flowmaster muffler with custom bent pipes? Is your piping 2.25 or 2.5"?

I would go Delta. SUV would be too quiet IMO.

 

Your stock pipe is 2.75" so get a 3" inlet muffler with a 2.5" dual out.

I've seen a few clips on YouTube from a Silverado/Sierra 5.3 Flowmaster 50 DF & SUV, has anyone run across any others? What about interior clips?

    • Thanks; I looked there a few minutes, and I think I can find something. I really never looked there, as I thought it was stuff like PTO/aftermarket bodies/accessories like snow plows.
    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.  
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.  
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
