C3 Tranmission Problems

2001 GMC 1500 Sierra C3, 70,000 miles, never had a single problem with this truck, until now. I went to back out of driveway and suddenly got a loud whining sound that increases and decreases depending on rpm of motor but going nowhere. I have forward movement and the noise does decrease's significantly but if you try to hear it you can although it seemed to totally dissapear when finally moving forward. Next indication of something wrong is the now slipping of gears, 1st seems to work, 2nd a little slipping and then into 3rd alot slippage, doesn't make it to OD. There was no noise or any indication that something was about to go wrong on this truck it worked beautifully, suddenly a paper-weight? Any idea anyone.

Yeah, I'm aware of that possibility, but I'm thinking more along the lines of Torque converter replacement, TCC replacement and installing a rebuild kit. Something broke, something immediate and determinant. That's the part that I'm trying to dessiminate. What part went bad first? Are the electronics a concern?

If you going to rebuild it yourself, I would start with the torque converter and TCC solenoid , rebuild kit I would also replace the sun shell. Probably would not replace any other electronics unless needed, it can get expensive replace all the switched and solenoids. If you taking it to a transmission shop they will replace what is needed and can should you what parts went out and tell you why.
