Tune For Manual Trans Truck

Recommended Posts

Tried this in the full size forum, didn't get too many responses so thought I'd try here. I have a 4.3l 2007 Silverado Classic w/manual trans.

Two questions for y'all:

1)does "torque management" apply to manual trans trucks?

2) If not - is there any reason to use a custom mail order tune instead of buying an aftermarket product and doing it myself? Don't want to spend the $ for EFIlive or the competing high-end tuning products, but is there something from Summit or Jegs in the $300 range that would be just as good, and more flexible, than a mail order tune since I don't think I have the TM?

Thanks!

You shouldn't have much of anything for torque management, since you don't have an auto trans. Torque management exists solely to keep automatic transmissions alive because they can't handle abuse like manuals can. As for mail order tunes, I'm not that versed in them so I'll stay quiet.

torque managment is a double edged sword in the GM software. there is both engine and transmission based torque management. the manual transmission software doesnt have transmission torque management, but engine torque management is still in teh software. it is in the trucks, camaro, corvette, etc tunes.

you have 3 real options for tuning. you can get a programmer, get a reflash (mail order or your local tuner) or you can get the real software and do it yourself. if you go cheap, it will come back and haunt you.
