E85 Flex Fuel

Recommended Posts

Any chance the 4300, 4800, 6000, 6200 vortec's become flex fuel anytime soon? I hear its not a huge design change for an engine, and was just curious. And its only the 5300 that is E85 compatible right now right?

Not sure.... but, then again, who cares????

E85 is not economical unless the price differential per gallon approaches $1 difference.

As gas is drifting down again, it is CERTAINLY not worth it.

E85 is more greenie feel-good stuff than a viable alternative.

The 6.2 next year is going to be "E85" flex-fuel compatible.

I wish my 6.0 was,I'd be running it if it was.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you see decreased performance and mileage running E85?

No performance decrease actually I think it runs better (105 octane). Milage drops 10-20%. I see the same milage in my 2wd Tahoe City I do with my Z71 Silverado E85 in the Tahoe vs gas in the Truck.

Here is a calculation of my 14 mpg and what I am paying for E85 vs a 15% increase with gas (LINK: http://e85prices.com/indiana.html)

E85 is CHEAPER to run and it is 50 cents cheaper a gallon

.225 a mile vs .228 for gas.

E85 cost per mile

Is E85 cost effective for you? Calculate the true costs of both fuels.

E85 Price E85 MPG 14

Gas Price Gas MPG 16

E85: Best$0.225 per mile

4.444 miles per $

Gas: Best$0.228 per mile

4.384 miles per $

Increased performance, decreased MPG.
