Hey, folks we need to wake this post up! There are always engine questions over at PUTC. How come we don't have any here?

Come on, I want to hear about gas mieage, 5.3 pinging, Dura(king of the hill)max, rebuilds, blown motors, how much rubber you can lay(as in tires),8.1(the baddest big block?), race motors, headers, cams, MFI vs TPI vs. TBI, how the gas mileage on your 6.0 sucks, the benefits or degradation of aftermarket chips and programmers.

I can't think of anything else.

Where would be the best forum to post a question on Transmissions?

Under the type of vehicle it is.

I'll assume that you're talking about your post under HD. That's as good a place as any.

Ok Friz: I just started on this site recently, asked a question about replacement engines and got some good info. Have you been to Sallee-Chevrolet.com site? Thats where I learned about the new TBI intake from GM so I could update my 5.7 to a Vortec crate engine when I am ready. Lots of Q & Answers on that site. STill don't know what engine to go with,(Towing)  Since you seem to have the experience (aircraft? I used to be in corporate aviation) what should I do with the trans (auto) and transfer case when I change out my tired 5.7? Thanks, Dave

Dave,

At the very least, even if you've never had tranny trouble, take both to a reputable tranny place for a going through. The tranny WILL be worn. You are going to begin putting a lot more stress on it with a new motor. I've never heard of a transfer case go bad, but I'm not really a 4x4 guy.

Yes, I do have a lot of aviation experience, but my hobby has always been cars. I've spent a lot of time building motors and messing with stock cars.
