The guys that have access to the computer system that includes that information are no longer able to perform such services. GM put a stop to it.

Thanks, I was not aware of that.

I am trying to find out what brakes are on this vehicle that belongs to my son-in-law. It has close to 70K miles now and we need to do rotors and pads and I want to have the correct parts on hand.

It has "JF3" brake system.

It's a 2006 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab. I have been getting conflicting brake parts from the local parts stores and I don't want to tear it about and find that I have the wrong parts on hand.

thats alot of miles for an 06. I have an 06 crew as well and that sucker only has 28K. are you going for stock replacements or upgraded replacements?

It's a 2006 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab. I have been getting conflicting brake parts from the local parts stores and I don't want to tear it about and find that I have the wrong parts on hand.

If your going to your GM dealer for parts....Take the VIN with you,Thats all they'll need to get you the correct parts.

Anymore I won't look up any parts until the customer gives me the VIN.

Just plan on using stock replacement parts. My son-in-law works in new house construction - lots of driving. He has had this truck for two years now and 70K in two years is low mileage for him.

My trucks are just the opposite. I had a 2000 Silverado Extended Cab LT Z71 that had 28K miles on it when I gave it to my grandson for a graduation gift last June. My 08 LTZ in the Avatar does not even have 1K miles yet.

Yeah...He was,and still is "The Man"

I worked for him back in '96 at his dealership,and had the opportunity to meet him on a "personal" level,The image he put on on Sunday's in the car was not who he was off the track,Believe me...He was truly a "good hearted" person,he would do anything for anybody. If I needed something he would get it for me.

I still get teary eyed when I think about him

I hear that a lot lately, but most folks want the LTZ's little brother.

The Corvette was built on 08/30/2006 and I was at the Bowling Green Assembly plant to watch it be assembled. Two weeks latter we took delivery at the National Corvette Museum across the street from the Bowling Green Assembly plant.

The dealer where I purchased the 2008 detailed the 2000 as part of the deal and put it on the lot next to my new LTZ. They had a special edition 2008 Z06 "427" in stock at the time and I asked my grandson if he wanted to go with me to pick up my 2000 that was being detailed. He looked at the Z06 and a couple of Indy Pace Cars and then the salesman took us out to the lot where the 2000 was parked. As soon as the trucks were in sight I handed my grandson the 2000 keys and told him the silver one is his and the red one is mine. He was surprised to say the least. Lucky Friday the 13th for him.

The special edition "427" Z06's are nice,we got one in here and I drooled over it until it was sold!!

Now I'm just waiting for our ZR1...were getting a Red one w/chrome wheels,The orders been accepted,it just has to be built!!

Yeah,Thats on my "want" list also...I've wanted a 'Vette for years,I just can't afford the truck payment and a Vette payment both..And I ain't given'up my truck!!

The ZR1's are nice looking but I cannot justify the price since I don't take my 'Vette to the track. I did run at local drag strips in my late teens (scary things teenagers do - I raced my daily ride and it is a good thing it never broke). I don't use my Z51 to anywhere it's potential but it is sure fun to drive.

I purchased my first 'Vette in 1975. It was a 1968 327/350 British Racing Green coupe in need of a lot of work. I spent about one year restoring it. I did all of the work myself including the paint. I sold that car in 2001. The picture below was taken just before I sold in. I had to repaint the lower part of each side twice in the 26 years I owned it because the side gets sandblasted by objects coming off of the tires. (If you look close at the pictures of the C6 you will notice very small splash guards to keep the paint from being damaged).

Now back to the 2006 Silverado.

I have brake pads the we purchased about a year ago (about 45K miles). We started to change them and found that the originals were not even half worn - I have never seen brake pads last this long. They are still in reasonable condition at 70K miles but there is pulsing in the steering wheel when the brakes are applied - most likely warped rotors. The rotors have some deep groves and need to be replaced. The pads I have are ProStop Ceramics from PEP Boys (manufactured by Satisified in Canada). I verified via the Satisified WEB site that I have the proper pads for a JF3 this morning. The local Chevy dealer has 3 rotors in stock so we plan to get 2 of them on Saturaday. I don't think we will do the work until after labor Day.
