I'm considering the purchase of a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500, automatic with a 4.8 V8 and would appreciate any opinions on the truck. It has about 60k miles on it.

I have a 2004 w/5.3L. If the truck was treated well and looks good you won't regret it. Good friend of mine had the 4.8 and pulls snow mobiles, etc. 4.8L is a nice engine. I agree with Griffin86, go for it.

Can someone direct me to the horsepower and torque of the 4.8 along with the tow rating? I'm having a hard time finding the specs on it. Also, is there a good source for genuine gm parts? The truck needs a hitch and I would prefer only factory parts. And one more question - Is the 2004 Sierra 1500 pre-wired for a brake controller and hitch plub?

Do you know what rear-end gears are in it? And is it a 4x4?

Give me a few minutes and I'll go grab my '04 brochure for the info. for you.

I don't know what rear end gears it has and it is not a 4x4. It is an SLE extended cab, short bed and without a hitch. Thanks for looking up the info. for me.

OK..Well since your covered on the HP & Torque ratings I'll answer your last question...

If you get the GM accessories hitch package it will give you the brake controller "jumper" harness and the hitch electrical plug "receptacle",All you do is drop your spare tire, and there is the trailer harness end there, you'll see a "dust" cover on the end of it,just remove the cover and run the harness down to the hitch where you will plug it into the electrical receptacle end.

Real easy,no cutting or splicing of any of the factory wires, the only wires you splice are the ones to your brake controller.

Here is the info along with the other Vortec truck engines for 2004 in this link below:

AS for the truck go for it. Have a mechanic or dealer inspect it before you buy it if your not to truck savy. Just a tip..... Otherwise the 4800 is a great choice!

hmm seems like one of these sites' information is off.

285 hp & 295 tq is correct for '04,They upped it from '03.

(They also upped the 5.3,to 295hp/335 tq)
