Bumper And Grille Questions

First, the bumpers. I was wondering if it is possible to remove the chrome plates so that i can have my friend powder coat them. I have a black truck and was thinking he could do the "black chrome" color he has. I also want him to do a grille and exhuast tip to match. which brings up another question. Ive been tryin to find a grille shell and grille inserts that i could have him do that with. Is that something doable? Or am i better off just having someone paint the grille? I would like them all to be the same if i can.

You can grind the chrome off, although it will take some time. But that may be your only option. It's just steel under that chrome, so grinding it to the steel will work.

I don't have any suggestions on the grille.

well, they sandblast, so i figured he could just do that. but what i was referring to was actually getting those parts off the bumpers.

If you're referring to the bumper impact bar in the center, it comes off, but with a lot of bolts and time. There are probably 40 or so bolts to remove in order to get it off and separated. Everything bolts to it so you have to take the bumper 95% apart. After that, sandblast and paint or powdercoat and reassemble.

i dont mind doing the work, if it comes out the way i want! Ive always done as much of my car work as possible. Its aggrivating, but relaxing at the same time. Hope you dont mind, but im kinda running along the same lines as you iminaquagmire, and allblkout97 i think is his forum name. I love the all black look. Im just gonna change it up a lil with a black chrome. Hopefully. It looks like ill have to settle for painting the stock grille shell tho, huh?

The grille shell is plastic which with some low temp powdercoats would be possible. Depends on if your friend has any experience with them.

I know its plastic, i was hoping someone had a billet version out, but i havent found one. I dont think he does the low temps because he said he doesnt do anything thats not metal. Maybe ill just get that sprayed to match the truck. I wonder what that would cost me. I wonder if it would look better to just leave the grille or get a billet insert powder coated the same as the bumpers and exhaust tip.
