Ac Delco Oil Filter Question

I called Autozone to pick up an oil filter and they have an AC Delco PF48s filter but not PF48. What is the difference? Can I use the PF48s on a 2008 5.3L flexfuel? I bought the oil filter at my dealer the last time but they charged me $8 and the PF48s is only about $4 at Autozone. I don't mind spending the extra money at the dealer if that is what I need to do...just curious.

I've never heard of an 's' being added behind a filter. I go to Advance and Uhohzone to get filters all the time and have never seen anything like that. I've seen 'R's though, for the rare occasion you need a reverse-thread in your oil filter.

Never heard of a PF48"S",They have a PF48"F" for fleet packaging,although its the same as a PF48.

Now they are coming out with a UPF48R for use on the new Corvette Z06's & ZR1's,They have a higher burst rating because the oil pressure on the ZR1's are higher, they will be able to be used on anything that uses a PF48,such as our trucks.

Thanks guys. Maybe the guy I talked to on the phone at Autozone was looking at something else or maybe the "s" is something Autozone added onto it internally for a stock number or something? I had never heard of the PF48s before today either. I'll run by there tonight after work and check it out.

Thanks again!

The 'S' may be for a silicon anti-drain back valve (usually red in color), rather than the usual nitral rubber ADBV (black in color). Just a possibility.

Be careful with Autozone, they are a little DEE-DEE-DEE sometimes. I sent my wife there with the part i needed and they still gave her the wrong part! I cant blame the wife at all because they told her this was a change that was made for replacment parts and she had no clue what she was getting or where it went. Once she got home and took a look where the bushing was suppose to go, she calmly said "they must be high". i remember this like it was yesterday because she took it back and gave them hell, and she is not very mechanicly gifted but could see that it was not happening.

One other thing I forgot to mention....some of the chain store (Auto Zone,Advance,Pep Boys, etc.) AC-Delco oil filters are made in Mexico..YOU DON'T WANT A FILTER MADE IN MEXICO

We've heard of some issues with them here at the dealership as far as them "bursting"

Now maybe these were just isolated cases but I wouldn't take a chance on it :)

Heh, I send my wife for parts all the time, and she won't leave the store without the appropriate part. She tends to look at what I'm doing and what I need before she goes. It's entertaining to hear some of the stories she's come back with. These kids they hire at Uhohzone and Advance (not so much at Advance, but they still get 'em) are retards when it comes to cars. I just wish CarQuest could beat their prices on more stuff. The guys at my semi-local one are actually smart enough to look in the book if they can't find the right part in the computer.

Thats why I said "SOME" of the filters are made in Mexico, not all.

The ones I get here at the dealership are all made in the USA.

I originally thought I would try Autozone since they where on the way home and cheaper. After listening to you guys, I think I'll run by the dealer tonight and grab it from them instead. I'll take the time and spend a few more extra bucks at the dealer for the piece of mind. It sounds like Autozone could be a bunch of dumbs**ts :)

+1 and the dealer I get them from is just as cheap as the other guys. I think I pay $4.99 for the oil filters IIRC.

Just picked up (2) PF48's for $6.95 each and (2) PF47's for $5.95 each. I guess they went up since last time I got them. Oh well. I'm set on oil and filters now until spring.

The PF47's are for my Sebring wife's Impala.
