Nelson Vs. Blackbear

Hey guys, I have a question and i have searched this site and i still cant come up with a decission. I need to know some opinions. Who has what? Has anyone had a tune from either brand that they didnt like or werent impressed?

I have an 08' GMC CCSB 5.3 Alum Z714x4 Fire Red. I want to remove the TM like everyone else and im tired of the no throttle response. Even with the VARA_RAM intake it still doesnt show an improvement in responsiveness, power is better once the computer decides to release it!!

I really need some help!

Can't comment on Nelson but I had a live tune done by Justin (BBP) and I like it alot. Feeling a 93 tune would be even better but thats a little pricey gas wise still. Truck will get out of its own way now for sure. 0-60 times arent horrible anymore either.

Of the 2 you listed, I would go with Blackbear. I've heard nothing but good feedback about him.

thats what i've read about BBP and i have heard so/so on NELSON. I just cant make up my mind.

IMO i would say if your closer to one chose that one because if you have any problems you can drive to them for me i went with nelson because its 30 minutes away from my house so if i ever need to go back to stock or if i want the truck re tuned its only a drive away where if i went with blackbear i would have to take them out mail them away wait for them to get back etc. so if your not close to blackbear westers or nelson (best three tunes IMO just on what ive heard and read on here and other boards) i would say go with blackbear because its almost like a live tune with the data logging cable he gives you.

That's why I went with Wheatley. Plus he has great customer service and he knows what he is doing.

Blackbear FTW!

And this is coming from someone with a Nelson tune.

Both are good tuners, but Justin's (Blackbear) customer service/friendliness is far better. I will be switching to Blackbear soon.

I agree with this statement. There is nothing better than having the tune done in person so it can be customized to your truck, assuming that the tuner is competent. If you aren't close enough to a good tuner to take your tuck to, the next best thing would be Justin at Blackbear, for two reasons, (1) the data logging he uses to customize the tune and (2) the great customer service.

You can't go wrong with a live tune from Blackbear. Unless you're on the West coast, its worth the gas for the trip to DC.

yeah i think im going to go with blackbear. It is 300 miles away from NC. Also, thats a nice set-up you got on your truck love the profile.

How much if you dont mind me asking, was the leveling kit and how much for the tires i know they were sky high

Depending on where you are in NC (I'm in southern VA within an hour to the border), I've got a Cooper tire hookup in my hometown. I think I paid $750 installed, which is alot cheaper than other places I shopped around at. Of course, you might find them slightly cheaper on EBay or something, but then you have to deal with shipping, installation, etc. which will drive the price higher.

Leveling kit was like $75 for parts, $125 for installation of which included an alignment.
