Electrical Problem, Indicator, Brake

I have an electrical problem with my 2001 Silverado 4wd ext cab.

Indicators seem to be working correctly, however when I press the brake the indictors start flashing much faster.

I replaced all the bulbs (all six in back and two each side in the front).

Ocasionaly when I press the brake the indicators just stop flashing.

Any idea where to look for the problem?

Thanks...Paul

Additional symptom.

I notice when I press the brake both indicator lights on the dash glow weakly.

Must be a short somewhere but no fuses are blown and both the indicatoes and brake lights still work.

Not too many suggestions, but it could also be a grounding problem with the brake lights.

Do the brake lights try to come on when the indicators are used?

I'd suspect the turn signal switch.

I'm not a tech but the emerg. flashers, turn and brake lights do combine in the multi-function (turn signal) switch for the logic switching/display decisions that are determined depending on the priority of the indication request: Brake trumps flasher, flasher trumps turn, turn trumps brake. This is where the highest likelyhood of a short between 2 of these circuits could occur IMO. You may find that your front signals are also illiminating weakly. Couple of hundred bucks for that switch. Did one on my '95 a few years ago.
