Do You Pump Your Own Gas?

On another forum I visit from time to time one of the members was talking about getting gas in Oregon... where it is illegal to pump your own gas? Is this true anywhere else? Are there still actual gas stations with attendants anywhere else in the country?

In Texas, there are 30 pump superstations with pay at the pump. You could fill a kiddie pool in the back of your truck without getting noticed! Finding an attendant at a gas station? Not here... at least not anywhere I've been.

What's it like in your state?

The last place I saw full service (and you 'had' to let them pump it) was New Jersey. That was years ago, though. I'm not sure if it's still that way up there.

Yup, it's illegal to pump it yourself here. Stupid as hell, if you ask me. I hate all the fingernail scratches under the gas door. Nobody here knows how to pump it themselves either, I had to pump it for my friend when we were in PA. :uhoh:

Here in the Atlanta (Georgia NOT Texas) we pump our own.

Pay at the pump or pay inside.

Old fashion "service" stations are pretty much gone.

Though they are still around.

Most popular is Quick Trip.

Usually good prices at the pump and good and friendly service in the C-store.

Paid $3.36 at Sam's Club yesterday.

I traveled for many years and sometimes I don't remember exactly where I was when I remember an event. I do remember being somewhere that I couldn't pump my own gas. There was some guy that looked like one of those "newspaper" window washers who was doing the pumping. There also was some kind of fire suppression ring that was above the gas pumps.

Never found out WHY I couldn't do my own .

I was at a gas station in WV and pumping my gad when I saw another guy smoking while pumping his gas... I stopped yelled at him and left. What a retard

They might be in place where people are stupid enough to light a cigarette while pumping gas...

!?!?? What's the problem with that?!

It's just some stupid BS used to create extra jobs.

Hey, I don't really mind that much, I get to stay in the truck in the winter, and NJ's still got some of the cheapest gas in the country.

There are still a few stations around here that have full service, and self serve, but you'll pay a dime more for them to pump it. Price per gallon is fluctuating around $3.49 and up around here. I'm glad it's not costing me over $100. to fill up everytime now.

yeah its close to 3.25-29 here... I am pating under $4 for diesel now...

Not for long. Refineries on the Gulf of Mexico are bracing for Hurricane Gustav.

Up North, most all of the gas stations are 'self-serve'. There are the odd 'full-service' stations (good for the winter time when it's really really cold outside).

Most of the gas stations are either 'pay at the pump' or pay inside, and when you select 'pay inside', you pay after you fill up (most stations).

I forget this when I travel in the US and most often get yelled out by the attendant when I attempt to use the pumps without paying first.
