Hello all, I just got back from Baton Rouge having Justin tune my all stock 5.3 08 Silverado. The tune was well worth the money. Throttle response has improved and WOT is way better. No more lag or dead pedal feel. The truck has some zip to it now and is much more fun to drive. I got 18.5 MPG on the trip down and believe it or not......20.4 MPG on the trip back (all hwy BTW)

My average speed was higher on the way down to get the tune. There is a hurricane projected to hit the Louisiana coast and the evacuee traffic had my return trip slowed to 40 MPH for about 1/2 way.

Anyways, I highly recommend Justin (Blackbear Performance). He takes the time to do it right and you can tell he knows what he is doing.

Glad to hear about your success....I just got word back from Justin...I am on the waiting list for the cables to get the the custom tune. I have a 4-5 week wait, but I hope it will be worth it...love you mpg...I hope to get 14-15 when it is done/

I had a predator last fall and after 5 weeks I sold it...almost no difference that I could tell. Certainly nothing in mpg!!

Quick question for ya, before your tune if you were to punch it from a stand still would it feel like your truck would fall on its face and after you got going about 10mph it would take off? I also have a 2008 silverado and if I punch it, it will spin the tires for like a half sec then its bog time. Im just wondering once you get a tune if the torque management removal makes a big difference from a stand still? Like if you go wot from a stop do you spin your tires and take right off?

My truck done the same thing before the tune. It could also feel this even at part throttle. I have not nailed it from a dead stop yet but now, when you get on the throttle...it is instant. No lag,no hesitation,no feeling like you got a trailer behind you.

You will love it!

Magnusen-Moss Act- It would be real hard for them to void your warranty. As a matter of fact, they usually cant even tell that you have a tune. the biggest issue you will come across (if you don't keep your stock PCM/tune) is if you have to take it to the dealer, they will sometimes flash the computer thus erasing your tune. Most folks will just swap the stock PCM in before having to take to dealership, I just told my dealership I did not want them to flash it, and they were compliant.

Its not the tune that is the problem... The only reason that they could void your warranty is if they could prove that the tune was the resulting reason for mechanical failure..

I am still trying to find the logic in the Hypertech even though its by far not the best tuner out there... Why would they sell it if it could void the warranty?

Jenna, do you have to do the Security/Crank Relearn when you swap the stock PCM back into the truck when you take it into the dealership, and then do it again when you put the custom PCM back in afterwords?

Does your truck have to "relearn" which PCM is in the truck every time you swap them out?

Last Q, can Blackbear do Dual Tunes, such as 89/92, or is it only specific for 1 octane tune?

No you don't have to do the security or the crank relearn, provided the key is not in the ignition when the PCM is removed.

Yes, your truck will go through a "relearn" however, your truck is always in a state of learning. It is learning atmosphere, shift pressures, and fuel quality etc.

Every tune has a dual tune, as we prefer to tune the high octane table to the highest octane you plan to use.

No, you only have to do the crank relearn once on a PCM.

The PCM needs time to relearn after it is reinstalled. Let it idle for at least 5 minutes after the swap then drive it. Takes a couple hundred miles to fully adjust.

He can do a dual-octane tune but they are not as good has one created for a specific octane like premium. You will get the best performance overall by requesting a 91+ tune.
