Cruise Control Malfunction (93)

Where do I start to look to figure out why my cruise control stopped working on my 93 2wd? 5.7, auto, air. Checked the usual fuses and such but no luck.

Might be easiest to get somebody that works on them to have a look.

Cruise actuators can die, switches too. I'd certainly check the connections going to the actuator first. If I remember right, that should be one of the older vacuum operated actuators... Also make sure the cable operates freely and isn't binding... that's about all the trouble shooting advice I have (any of you techs want to chime in here?)

EDIT: Do you get any lights or indications that the system is turning on? I don't remember what 93s had.

93's are the older Vac systems. No lights or codes at all. It is an older truck, but has 130K and is spotless (original paint). Can't part with it, can't break it, wife says keep it!

I remember on some of the vacuum cruise units, we used to remove the vacuum line and depress the actuator, then put a finger over the fitting and see if it held the vacuum. If the diaphram in the actuator has cracked with age, it will be leaking. At the same time, it will tell you if the cable is moving freely. Check and make sure everything is physically connected too.
