Manual Transfer Case?

Looks like the message with my original post got deleted too, so I'll repeat the question. I was looking to confirm which manual transfer case is in the 2008 GM half ton pickups that do NOT have Autotrac (in other words, which model NVxxx) like the WT editions? Is today's manual TC pretty much the same one I'm used to from older GM pickups, before Autotrac?

 

Also, would like to know the recent general consensus on the G80 Eaton Locker. Have heard from several mechanics that the G80 has been known to fly apart, causing a lot of rear end internal damage and sometimes even take out the auto trans with it. Now, I suspect that might be related to how people drive their trucks (burnouts and other situations where one wheel is spinning very rapidly and one is not), but I am wondering if folks that have treated their trucks with TLC have also had problems with the G80.

 

Right now I am considering moving to GM, and picking up a 2008 WT with the G80, 5.3L iron block, manual TC, off road tires, towing package. Need it to tow reliably up to 5000 lbs and also handle hunting trails with ease. Would like to get the Z71, but can't on the WT. Bottom line, doesn't need to be fancy, just tow well and give me decent hunting trail off-road performance.

 

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

What you're looking for sounds very similar to mine but with the 5.3l. You can essentially make the Z71 package(minus fogs and appearance upgrades given with LT trim) by adding the Z85 trailering package getting you the bigger shocks as well as adding the snow plow prep package which will get you the skid plates, alternator, and something else I'm forgetting. I love my manual t-case as I can really feel it go in and feel it go out. However, if I'd had the coin I'd have gotten a AutoTrac one but am happy with what I ended up with.
