1500 hd 6.0litre

I bought a 1500hd in January and have noticed a ticking sound coming from the engine since day 1. I live in Manitoba Canada. It seems to be more noticeable when it's colder outside and isn't as loud when the truck warms up. I read about this piston slap problem, but I don't have the banging some guys are talking about. What are some of your thoughts. I've never had anything but gm and have never had this problem. The dealer says it's normal, but apparently all the engines don't make this noise. I'm pretty concerned and very dissapointed after spending $40, 000. What are some of your thoughts?

Sounds like you've got a cold start knock.  I've heard that some truck suffer from it.  Some of the guys said it went away when they did some things like: changed to synthetic oil, or ran some fuel injector cleaner.

If you can get a stethascope, take a listen to the fuel rails and injectors.  They are pretty noisy on these trucks.  You might also be able to tell by using the old screwdriver trick where you put the blade of the screwdriver on the engine and the handle against your temple on your head (it works!!! ) .

Thanks for the info. One other question, I installed and Airaid intake filter system and Poweraid throttle body spacer on the truck last weekend. It sure seems to have given me some extra jam. I'm hoping for better fuel economy when on longer trips and not stepping on it! Have any of you done this on your trucks? I've only put on 2000 miles so far and have been dissapointed with the mileage. My truck is 4WD and I'm getting 10-11mpg.

A fellow at work has a 1500HD with 3.73 gears, and he drives about 15 miles one way to work.  He gets about 15-15.5 mpgs with his truck on US gallons.
