Gmt900 Mirror Swap

Recommended Posts

I DID seach, and saw there were a few posts on this but none really fitting my situation and none with a real definitive answer so i figured it would be ok to start a new one

I have an 08 sierra that has power mirrors, but no signals or tilting, i dont really care about power folding but i would like the signals and the titling, is it possible to replace my mirrors with these or just something i am going to have to go without

can anyone point me in the right direction?

thanks!

I have the electrical heated mirrors and want to do the same, I think is possible if you have RPO codes A31 and DL8, because if you buy the towing extendable mirrors they come with electric remote control, heated and turn signal, so it would be just swap mirrors the only thing they would not have is the power folding feature.

is the link for the towing mirrors.

I had the stock GMT900 mirrors, and changed them out for the camper (towing) mirrors. I had the dealership do it as they had originally told me that the truck computer needed to be reprogrammed, but in the end that was crap. Old mirrors unbolt with 3 nuts, and new ones in and they just plugged into the harness. The door panel had to be taken off though. Good luck.

I'm trying to do the same on my Suburban, I've got the bottom part of the door off, but the top part seems like it dosen't want to come off. I took out the bolt behind the handle, but I don't want to pull too hard and break something. Any suggestions??

Can not be done with out proper door modules. You can get the signal part to work but that is it.

how does one find out if they have the right modules, is there an rpo for them?

I may be wrong but I think that most trucks support the signals but if you don't already have power fold mirrors, you can't add them.

I bought some scrap mirrors off ebay and used the glass and the 2 wires for the signals and added them to my existing DL8 mirrors. Very easy just keep track of what slot you remove the signal wires out of on the old plug and be sure to install them in your existing plug the same way. I dont think they will work if installed backwards. The tilt feature is not addable if you dont already have it. I just wanted the signals on mine.

I did this too. Tilting for adjustment or "curb tilt"?

what do you mean by Tilting? the same thing as folding?

No,He means where the mirror glass itself tilts down when you put the truck in reverse,Its also called the "curb-tilt" feature.

My '04 had that feature,I turned it off...it became annoying

what was the feature on my old 06 that seemed to tint the mirrors at night? that was an awesome option that my 08 doesnt seem to have. is there something i can do to get that back?

They call it "self-dimming" or "electro-chromatic".

If you add the power-fold/turn-signal mirrors they have this feature on the driver's side.
