I Want An 8' Bed With No Dents.

Anyone have an 8' bed, that they want to get rid of, that will fit on my 2000 GMC Sierra? Preferably in Summit White. Mine has a giant dent on the right side and it costs $2000 to get it fixed. It also costs $2000 to get a new one. I don't have $2000!!!!

Have you actually priced a new one?

Salvage yards are one choice. Most are computer linked to inventory.

I have seen one business that only specializes in used bed. Hundreds of them. But not anywhere near west coast.

There are some big junk yard chains now. LKQ comes to mind.

An 8 foot white bed is probably the easiest one to find. Most fleet truck places use white trucks for their bed conversions. Try some of the commercial body suppliers in your area. There has to be one somewhere that has a leftover 07 classic bed in stock.

Anyway, thanks for the replies. I went to the local dealer and they punched me in the face with a $2000 price tag for a new 8 footer. Then I went to various body shops and they all hit me with the same price.

I realize fleet owners do switch out the regular beds for utility beds a lot. I see it all the time on eBay, but the location is always so damn far. In the end, the cost of shipping usually brings the price up to around $2000 also.

Oh well, I'll keep lookin. Thanks again for your replies.

Do you have comprehensive on your insurance policy? They should cover it, minus the deductible.

Funny you should mention that, Dave. My mother put the dent in it about 6 years ago, 2 years before I started driving it. Soo, I think the insurance claim may be out of the question. Back in those days, my parents were afraid of reporting ANYTHING to the insurance company, which, by the way, is Farmers. As for me, it wasn't until recently, relative to how long ago this happened, that I had a clue as to how insurance works.

As for me, it wasn't until recently, relative to how long ago this happened, that I had a clue as to how insurance works.

Well there is plenty of ways around that. Does this dent have any rust? As in paint was chipped off hen the dent occurred and developed some rust? if not, the insurance Co would never know when the dent occurred. Furthermore it is your truck, and if the insurance Co did not take any pictures with the pre existing dent, then it is perferctly legal to claim it on your comp.

I had a dent in my tail gate on one of my trucks and called the insurance Co to come out and appraise the damage. Well when they came out, I wasn't home at the time and they also put in other appraisals for older damages and got a nice check for $900.00 plus. If you pay for comprehensive, it is your right to utilize it. One or two claims within a couple of years of each other won't raise your rates, this is why we have insurance. You can even verify this with your insurance Co, just to make sure they won't raise your rates, most of them don't. It doesn't matter the age of the vehicle, as long as you pay for Comp, it's covered.

Comp is there for a reason... Mainly if your paying for it.... use it.. I had a neighbors tree fall on my old truck durring Ike... Guess where the truck is now? Waiting on me to pick it up from the body shop. New paint, new step on the drivers side.. Going to make selling that ford a whole lot easier. I learned my lesson on the last truck. If this new one gets one more scratch on the drivers door, it's going to get file on... Hey its a big truck and I've had some troble parking the beast when I first bought it...

Did you try to go through your neighbors home owners insurance before using your comp? As far as scratches go it isn't worth it unless you have them go over entire truck. They usually pucker up like a snare drum when it comes to scratches, because you would be amazed how many scratches will disappear after a good buffing. The body shop I use, the guy who owns it does an excellent job at getting rid of scratches. I had him once buff out entire truck and he made the metal look like glass. Which reminds me, my truck could use another buffing.

In my state, homeowners does not cover vehicles. I learned that hard way after a storm when a large tree fell from my property and a branch hit my neighbors car.

I'd keep looking at truck conversions and salvage yards.
