Transmission Lurching At Start Up?

I have a 05 silverado and have had this issue since new, im attepting to get it fixed at the dealer but of course they just called and told me well the tech said the throttle body is dirty and needs cleaning, oh and by the way thats 60 bucks. Funny how they will throw fixes at my truck when it will costing me money but like my other problem with my window rattleing around they continue to try and tighten bolts which does nothing and refuse to try new parts to see if something is worn out.

Back to the main part of the post though, i could of swore i remember reading a bulliten on this site for that problem, it feels all most like the transmission engages right when the engine kicks over and makes almost like a clunking noise of a tranny going into gear. It stays parked no problem just mainly a noise annoyance and have gotten sick of having it happen from time to time. Sucks because these intermitant problems never seem to be able to get fixed, and i am kind of pissed that they are trying to sell me on a 70 dollar injection cleaning which a 5 dollar bottle of seafoam can do and overall has nothing to do with the problem i brought it in for, or atleast imo it doesnt.

similar experience here, interested if there is a TSB

Well from searching around it looks like two fixes though not really verified are that lubing or replacing to a knickle coated slip yoke and or cpu updates to the transmission are fixes. Nothing i can go to with my dealer though, i already know if it's not in tsb form they will ignore it. Im thinking i might just have to live with it as it looks like many others are.

I called the service department and they connected me with the service adviser and after about 1 minute of explaining things he agreed right off the bat that he thinks this is a slip yoke issue. Hopefully they either replace or lube and see if this will maybe fix it once and for all. Ill post back if this fix does the trick.

Well scrap that, i get there to pick up my truck and of course the mechanic didn't touch anything only added to his notes of could be a dirty throttle body ( yeah sorry this may work on people who do not know a tire from a brake pad, but not me) or of course the real reason which the service adviser seemed to agree with me on which is the slip yoke. So then he proceeds to tell me that the slip yoke is not covered under my warranty and that it's a general maintenance item.

So does gm now just add poor designs that need constant attention to their list of regular maintenance? I mean come on here, they couldn't take the probably 1 hour to take it apart and at least slap some grease on it to try and fix it. Sorry but i looked and not anywhere in the manual does it say that slip yoke greasing is a regular maintained item. Oh well I'm off to try and find a dealer that might lift a finger and the one i went to better hope i don't find one because they are not going to appreciate the negative feedback that i will be sending back to gm.

Mine "lurches" forward a little when I start too.

I read all over the internet trying to find out why. There were alot of explainations about solenoids in the tranny, torque converters and such, but nothing about the slip yoke.

Maybe someone can tell me how the slip yoke on the rear axle just sitting in a non-spinning, non-extending/retracting state can move my truck forward a little when I start it?

I don't think so either.

Wish someone could come up with a definitive answer.

Good luck!

I think that my problem when starting the truck is something different, but i also get the slip yoke problem while coming to a stop light getting a feeling or jerk, almost like someone love tapped the bumper from behind. That is a definit slip yoke issue from what i have been reading. I called another dealer and told them my situation, he said he is going to look into it and get back to me. Because i refuse to bring my truck in again without atleast something being tried to remedy the situation, i dont have time to waste for bs excuses and lies about it being a non covered item.

I have a similar issue. Bucks slightly in reverse once, immediately at startup. :jester: Doesn't do it every time. Almost like it's partially in reverse gear then slips out. Can't be good for it. Hopefully someone knows a fix.
