Transmission Filter/gasket Help .......

Recommended Posts

Ok, there's got to be a trick in getting the transmission filter seal out. The thing is glued in there or something. The new one is rubber with a metal outter ring, looks like the existing one in there is the same. I've tried a lot of things, and the rubber is now quite damaged/cut etc. I should've felt it in the first place, but now it's too late, it's gotta come out. How does that sucker come out? Please, need all your advice here. I spent the last few hours trying without any luck. Any help would great. Thank you much!!!

On my 97' it just popped out when I pulled the filter off. If its already damaged try a pair of needle nosed pliers.

Did you get it out?

I have seen 2 things done. You can buy a hook type seal puller that looks much like a tool a dentist would use. You reach above the seal with this tool and attempt to pull it down.

I have also seen someone use a long very sharp chisel and very carefully cut the metal on the side of the seal. Once the metal is cut part way up, the seal will pull right out. You must be very careful not to damage the tube where the seal sits.

Good luck and let us know.

Man, that was a SOB of a seal to get out. The darn thing was wedged in there so tight, took a night and another half a day to break her lose. I got a huge seal puller, which resembles a hose pick, but that still didn't work. That son of a gun did not want to move, until a used a file on her. A triangular file to be exact, and filed her way the heck down. I think after filing her down in several areas, it weakened it enough, and I was able to pry her out w/ the seal puller. Still took quite a bit of force and A LOT of torque. Yeah, the aluminum housing got a little dinged up, but oh well, it came out. I was one happy camper!!!

Next time, if she doesn't want to come out, she's getting reused.
